Local Jeweler Receives Renowned Certification from Jewelers of America

New York, NY – Jewelers of America (JA), the national trade association for businesses serving the fine jewelry marketplace, has awarded Joshua Pratt, Bench Jeweler at Jewelry by Design in Auburn, AL, the JA Certified Beginner Bench Jeweler (CBBJ) designation – the first level of the Jewelers of America Professional Bench Certification program.

The Jewelers of America Professional Bench Certification program was created in 1997 and evaluates the bench methods and repair and fabrication competencies that bench jewelers encounter in their daily work, and to be certified, the candidate must demonstrate proficiency in each skill to an acceptable national standard. By evaluating bench jewelry professionals according to nationally recognized standards, Jewelers of America Professional Certification formally recognizes an individual’s standing in the field of bench jewelry and shows that customers can trust the skills and knowledge of the certified bench jeweler professional.
Joshua Pratt has been working as a bench jeweler for three years and holds an Applied Jewelry Professional certificate from GIA. He completed the first level of the Jewelers of America Professional Bench Certification program to demonstrate his dedication to the craft and his eagerness to grow his expertise. Since he did not attend jewelry school, this certification further validates his skills.
Jewelry by Design was founded in 1995 by Mark and Tammy Nelson. As the only free-standing, family-owned jewelry store in the Auburn/Opelika area, the shop features three skilled in-house jewelers and is proudly owned and operated by a master jeweler.
