What is a “Desert Diamond”?

A “Desert Diamond” is a trendy marketing term that refers to a specific shade range of colored natural diamonds. Their hues range from soft cream to deep bronze. Also referred to as champagne diamonds or cognac diamonds, the warm tones reflect the shades of color found in desert landscapes.

Desert Diamonds are not necessarily mined in deserts. The name simply reflects the color palette. Inspired by sand, sunlight, amber, clay, honey, mocha, and sunset tones. In the past, the term “desert diamond” has been used to refer to quartz stones found in desert regions like Saudi Arabia. Those are not diamonds. The current use of “desert diamonds” refers to natural diamonds. This can be a good clarification to customers shopping online.

Why Are They Trending?

De Beers has been heavily promoting the term as part of their ’25-26 natural diamond campaign, but interest in desert diamonds has begun trending up as customers are gravitating toward diamonds with more warmth, individuality, and personality. They fit well within jewelry trends as customers are looking for personal, organic, vintage-inspired, and less mass-produced looks.
